Siemens wins Hydro One systems contract

21 July 2003 - Germany's Siemens Power Transmission and Distribution (PTD), announced Friday it had been selected by Hydro One, Canada´s second largest energy transmission and distribution company to design and build an integrated end-to-end asset and work management solution.

Hydro One is seeking a solution within this project that combines technology, systems integration and management consulting services that will drive anticipated benefits to the organization. Hydro One intends to maintain and improve existing levels of delivery reliability and wants to leverage these installed assets to enable the releasing of their business potential in the future.

The scope of this project is to replace the existing Asset and Work Management System with a solution comprising state-of-the-art technology that enables streamlined business processes across all business lines of Hydro One. Siemens PTD and its partners are providing management consulting services, the Asset and Work Management technology, a GIS-based distribution design system, an Enterprise Application Integration solution and other services to help Hydro One achieving its transmission and distribution efficiency goals resulting in significant lower operational and life-cycle costs of managing its assets, comprising e.g. 1.4 million poles and an overall line length of approx. 150.000 km.

According to Dr. Albert Maringer, President and CEO of Siemens Canada Limited, "This project is an excellent example of a knowledge company providing a knowledge base solution. It also reflects strongly on our vision of being able to provide global solutions at a local level in Canada and around the world."
