July 18, 2003 -- Ceramics GmbH now trades under the name of Argillon GmbH, the company announced recently. The new name of Ceramics GmbH is now Argillon GmbH. After the spin-off out of Siemens AG and the sale to the US-American capital investment company Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR) last year, the Redwitz-based firm has seized the opportunity to build up a corporate identity of its own.
The term "Ceramics", taken over from "Siemens Power Generation Ceramics", was, from the start, meant to be a temporary name only. Since September 2002 Argillon GmbH has been part of DEMAG Holding, based in Luxemburg, in which KKR has an 81% share and Siemens AG a 19% share.
The key product of ARGILLON, the SINOx® SCR catalyst, is well known in the power generation sector. SINOx® Emissions Control possesses decades of experience in the development and production of SCR catalysts and systems for the reduction of nitrogen oxides in more than 500 fossil fired combustion plants, diesel engines and many other areas of application.
"With its extraordinary name and its matching corporate design, we have taken the unique opportunity to firmly establish a trademark of our own on the world markets," says Dr. Gerhard Angermueller, Argillon's CEO. "This is why any possible effort was made in the past months to protect the name worldwide as a trademark", he emphasizes.
The name "Argillon" is derived from the Latin word "argilla" (= clay) and thus refers to one of the company's most important raw materials. The symbol in the new logo shows a sail and stands for new opportunities, a time of new departures and partnership. "Together with our customers we are all in the same boat. It is only in close cooperation with reliable partners that we will be able to elaborate innovative solutions," Dr Angermueller points out.
Worldwide, about 1,000 members of staff work for Argillon in the following business segments: SINOx® Emissions Control, Insulators, Piezo Products, Alumina and Tools. Argillon's largest site is situated in Redwitz, Upper Franconia, Germany. It is there that development, production, sales and service of technical ceramics are concentrated. Furthermore, there is a branch in Jedlina Zdroj, Poland, with its main emphasis on medium voltage insulators, a sales and engineering site in Alpharetta, Georgia, USA, and a sales office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Since September 2002, Argillon has belonged to the American Private Equity Firm KKR (Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.). KKR is one of the worldwide leading capital investment companies. Founded in New York in 1976, KKR has made investments of around $100 billion, an increasing share of which has recently gone to Europe.
