NORMAN, Okla., July 18, 2003 -- Power Costs, Inc. (PCI), a provider of power generation asset optimization software solutions, has licensed PCI GenTrader™ to Bryan Texas Utilities (BTU). BTU is using PCI GenTrader™ to optimize their generation assets against load serving obligations and market opportunities.
"In searching for a model, PCI was the only provider that could provide us with the analytical capabilities to handle all the ancillary service market components in Texas," said Tom Hancock, BTU's Division Manager - Power Marketing. "We feel that with PCI GenTrader™ we can save money by optimally using our assets considering all the opportunities to buy or sell both energy and ancillary services to the market. In addition to near term decision support, the flexibility of PCI GenTrader™ also allows us to better forecast our operational and financial metrics into the future for long range planning studies."
BTU plans to apply PCI GenTrader™ for next day and current day trading as well as to forecast financial performance. BTU intends to establish consistency in its approach to trading and asset management by using PCI GenTrader™ as a common system for these functions and post analysis functions like avoided cost calculations.
"We are very pleased to add BTU to our growing list of customers" said Jason Kram, PCI Vice President. "The ability to work with our customers to demonstrate our software capabilities and associated benefits is a rewarding experience. By providing our customers a system that can handle the most difficult optimization problems like co-optimization of energy and ancillary services, we allow them to determine how to best utilize their assets, the market, and contractual obligations to save money and to generate the most from their assets."
