Entergy selected to provide management to Cooper Nuclear Station

JACKSON, Miss., July 18, 2003 -- Entergy Nuclear expects to begin next week negotiating a Management Services Agreement with Nebraska Public Power District to provide management to Cooper Nuclear Station.

"We at Entergy are complimented that NPPD has selected us from among several national nuclear operating companies," said Entergy Nuclear CEO Gary Taylor. "We have learned a lot from operating 10 nuclear units in six states while growing to become the nation's second largest nuclear operating company.

"Cooper is fundamentally a good plant with good people. We can and will share Entergy Nuclear's lessons learned as a national nuclear fleet operator, best practices and management leadership, and treat Cooper as a new member of the Entergy Nuclear family.

"But the people at Cooper will make that plant a top performer. We expect to show them how they can realize their potential to be among the best."

Today's selection of Entergy Nuclear by the Nebraska Public Power District Board of Directors authorizes NPPD staff and Entergy to negotiate an agreement providing that Entergy will furnish several key executives to Cooper.

Additional professionals are expected to be sent from Entergy Nuclear to share their specific technical expertise on temporary assignments over the contract period.

The definitive agreement to be negotiated must be approved by Entergy management and the NPPD Board. Such an agreement would specify a date for Entergy to begin furnishing management services to the plant.

Entergy Nuclear, the nuclear businesses of Entergy Corporation, is headquartered in Jackson, Miss. Entergy, a global energy company headquartered in New Orleans, is the fourth largest power generator in the nation with more than 30,000 megawatts of generating capacity, $8 billion in annual revenue and almost 2.6 million customers.

Entergy Nuclear is the second largest and fastest growing operator of nuclear power plants in the nation. It operates five reactors at four locations in Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana under regulatory jurisdictions and five reactors at four sites in Massachusetts, New York and Vermont. Entergy Nuclear also is the nation's largest provider of license renewal and decommissioning services to the U.S. nuclear power industry.
