HOUSTON, July 16, 2003 -- Texas Genco Holdings Inc. announced that a steam pipe ruptured Tuesday at its W.A. Parish facility, damaging one of the facility's units and temporarily knocking another unit offline.
There were no injuries at the plant and no interruption in service to customers. The company is currently investigating the cause of the incident.
The rupture occurred at Unit 8, a 610 MW coal-fired electric generating unit, and one of four at W.A. Parish, which is located in Fort Bend County, Texas and approximately 50 miles southwest of downtown Houston. Units 5, 6 and 7 were undamaged and were all in service as of noon, Wednesday.
It is too early in the company's investigation to estimate when repairs are likely to be completed, the cost of the repairs or the cost of what is expected to be more expensive replacement power. Texas Genco has adequate generating capacity to offset the loss of Unit 8 and meet its obligations to its customers.
