4 July 2003 - Japan's Toshiba Corporation has launched a business that will repair and upgrade the power generation plants of overseas power companies. The new business will also repair and upgrade equipment installed by competing manufacturers.

The new business will offer a repair service and undertake upgrades to boost capacity without simply replacing existing equipment with new equipment.

Overseas markets show promise because many power companies have operated plants for years without proper maintenance, Toshiba said.
