Alstom wins €140m CCGT order for Latvia

4 July 2003 - Alstom's industrial gas turbines business, in Sweden, has been awarded an order valued at approximately €100m ($115m) from Latvenergo, the Latvian national electricity company, for a new 140 MW gas turbine combined cycle plant in Riga, to supply both heat and power to the country's capital.

The contract is for the complete construction of the Riga plant, which is a major electric and thermal power supplier for the Latvian capital. Main equipment consists of the KAX100-2, a standard combined cycle power plant package comprising two gas-fired 43 MW GTX100 gas turbines and a single 54 MW steam turbine, including auxiliaries. The equipment will be delivered from the Alstom industrial turbine facility in Finspong, Sweden. Also included in the scope of supply is project execution, Balance of Plant systems, construction, site works and commissioning of the complete plant.

The combined cycle plant will replace the existing 50 year-old plant, and raise the standards of the equipment to meet modern EU demands. The turbines will be delivered in the summer of 2004, and the plant is scheduled for completion by late 2005.

"Alstom Sweden is very pleased to be entrusted with this major order," says Lars Josefsson, Country President for Alstom Sweden. "It is an advantage for us and for our customers that we have the facilities for and experience of total deliveries of such large-scale projects".

GTX100 is the top of the Alstom range of industrial turbines. 17 GTX100 gas turbines have previously been sold for a variety of generation, cogeneration and combined cycle applications. Recent major orders have included cogeneration for Frankfurt-am-Main in Germany, and a district heating project for Moscow City.
