2 July 2003 - Foster Wheeler Ltd. said Tuesday that its subsidiary, Foster Wheeler Power Group, Inc., has been awarded a contract from Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL) to supply and install two state-of-the-art selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems for IPL's coal-fired Petersburg Generating Station, Units 2 and 3 located in Petersburg, Indiana.
The contract is valued at approximately $126m. Foster Wheeler will provide engineering, material supply, construction, commissioning and testing for this installation. SCR operation is scheduled to begin in summer 2004.
These SCR systems will improve air quality by reducing emissions of smog-producing nitrogen oxides (NOx) by up to 90 percent. Foster Wheeler's SCR technology has been proven effective at reducing NOx emissions from fossil-fuel-fired plants, and operates in more than 100 installations.
