LYNCHBURG, Va., June 30, 2003 -- Framatome ANP, an AREVA and Siemens company, has signed a contract with Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) to supply replacement reactor vessel closure heads for its four nuclear power generating units: Turkey Point Units 3 and 4, and St. Lucie Units 1 and 2.
The vessel heads will be replaced during regularly scheduled maintenance and refueling outages, currently scheduled to begin with Turkey Point Unit 3 in 2004, and continuing with Turkey Point Unit 4 and St. Lucie Unit 1 in 2005, and St. Lucie Unit 2 in 2006.
The vessel heads will be supplied by Framatome ANP's Chalon Saint Marcel factory in France, where the company manufactures reactor vessel heads and other major components for the nuclear industry worldwide. Framatome ANP also currently provides outage support and other services for FPL's four nuclear units, and it will perform the installation of the heads and associated equipment.
"For many nuclear plant operators, reactor vessel head replacement is one of the best economic options for ensuring the long-term reliability of their plants," said Don Janecek, Framatome ANP Inc. Senior Vice President, nuclear projects. "We make sure our customers have the information they need to make the best decision, and we work closely with the customer in every aspect of a vessel head replacement project, from engineering and planning, to manufacturing, to installation and start-up."

This work will involve offloading and heavy haul transportation of the reactor vessel heads at the plant sites, rigging and handling inside the containment building, and temporary plant modifications to support replacement.
