Huntsville, Ala., June 30, 2003 -- UAI (Utility Automation Integrators, Inc.), a provider of geospatial information technology solutions, announced that former Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Chairman Craven Crowell has been appointed chairman of UAI's board committee for Finance and Corporate Strategies.
Crowell joined the UAI board of directors in April of 2002. He previously served eight years as the head of TVA, the largest public power provider in the United States. As chairman of the Finance and Corporate Strategies Committee, Crowell will provide guidance in helping steer UAI's future financial and strategic direction.
UAI Chairman and CEO S.K. Chauhan said Crowell's presence on the board has been a key factor in the company's continued success and rapid growth. His new responsibilities will only strengthen that presence and help UAI develop strategies for managing that growth.
"Craven's experience and expertise in both the utility and financial markets is vast," said Chauhan. "We have drawn extensively on that wealth of knowledge during the past year, and will continue to do so in the years to come."
Crowell said UAI has established itself as a leader in the GIS market by developing technology that is not only "cutting edge" but practical as well.
"UAI's solutions work," said Crowell. "They are working in the field everyday for clients across the U.S. When you couple that with UAI's ability to fully integrate existing systems and provide a seamless enterprise solution, you can easily see why the company has been so successful." UAI signed its first utility client in 1998. Just five years later, UAI serves 100 clients from Alaska to Florida with its innovative solutions and services.
UAI's recent diversification into the municipal market with its CityCenter™ application will open an even broader market for the company's technology. Crowell said that is going to result in accelerated growth in all areas: clients, sales, employees and infrastructure needs.
"Managing that growth is crucial to the long-term success of UAI," said Crowell. "This board committee will be looking at the areas of funding for capital growth, investment strategies for the future and the overall direction of UAI as we take information technology to new and exciting frontiers."
Crowell is a former chairman and current advisory council member for the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), Palo Alto, California. EPRI's science and technology program serves more than 1,000 energy organizations in 40 countries with energy-related technical and business expertise. He also now serves on the board of EPRI Worldwide and is the chairman of GCW Consulting. Crowell has more than 25 years in federal government service and served as a Vice President in TVA's senior management team previous to being appointed to the TVA board.
