Japan's Daifuku ties up with ABB in distribution systems

30 June 2003 - Zurich-based ABB Ltd has formed a business tie-up with Japan's Daifuku Co. in the field of distribution systems.

Under the agreement, Daifuku's automated warehouses and peripheral vehicles will be combined with ABB's distribution management software and robot technology, and will be sold to major European supermarkets and autoparts manufacturers. ABB's software comes in many European languages and is highly compatible with management data on local delivery vehicles.

ABB is strong in manufacturing heavy electrical equipment, but does not produce distribution equipment, such as warehouses and materials handling systems.

By partnering with Daifuku, it hopes to boost sales of its distribution management software.
