BURLINGTON, Ontario, Canada, June 27, 2003 -- Ivara Corp., a provider of asset reliability solutions, announced a license and services agreement with Brighton Beach Power L.P., a limited partnership formed by ATCO Power Ltd. and Ontario Power Generation Inc. (OPG), for implementation of the Ivara reliability solution at its new plant in Windsor, Ontario.
The Brighton Beach Power plant will use the Ivara solution to optimize the efficiency of its maintenance work and to ensure it is doing the right work to maximize asset performance and extend asset life.
The Brighton Beach plant will consist of two state-of-the-art natural gas fired turbines coupled with electricity generators, a heat recovery system and a single steam turbine combined with a third electricity generator. The waste heat from the gas turbines is captured in the heat recovery system and used to produce steam which runs a steam turbine connected to a generator. The high efficiency configuration, referred to as a "combined cycle" plant is expected to commence commercial operation by the spring of 2004.
Implementing a combination of Ivara reliability technology and services will support a proactive reliability-driven culture where maintenance and operations work together to make an active, positive contribution to meeting business goals. Using Ivara's advanced reliability software, Brighton Beach plant personnel will collect and monitor condition indicators to assess system performance.
The Ivara software will automatically analyze this data and notify maintenance personnel of asset degradation before it affects performance targets and before productivity is impacted. With its ease-of-use features, particularly in the areas of navigation, definability and integration, Ivara's software can be quickly and easily installed to meet the needs of Brighton Beach's practices and processes.
"Asset reliability is critical to our business," said George Opocensky, plant manager at Brighton Beach. "Originally we were looking for a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), but Brighton Beach Power chose Ivara because we got much more than that. We got a system that focuses on reliability, allowing us to proactively monitor asset conditions, increase plant efficiency and save money."
"We are seeing more and more companies like Brighton Beach Power, focusing on reliability to enhance their competitiveness, further endorsing our belief that maximizing asset reliability is a key requirement to success," said Bill Shaw, president & CEO of Ivara Corporation. "Getting in at the ground level ensures that we can support the Brighton Beach plant in accomplishing its business goals of achieving higher returns on asset investments while ensuring safety and environmental integrity."
