Kane named as NNSA associate manager for management and administration

WASHINGTON, D.C., June 24, 2003 - National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Administrator Linton Brooks has named Michael C. Kane as the NNSA associate administrator for management and administration.

Kane has been acting in this position since the retirement of Tony Lane in late April and as deputy administrator for management and administration since joining NNSA in October 2001.

"Mike Kane brings to this position a wealth of experience in government and an extraordinary knowledge of administration and management," Brooks said. "I am impressed with his positive attitude and can-do approach to problem solving. Mike truly cares about the welfare of all NNSA employees and is committed to our overall success."

Before joining NNSA, Kane held several key management positions within the Department of Energy (DOE), including director of the Office of Special Projects, where the initial formation of NNSA began, and as the acquisition manager for the DOE Office of Field Management. Before joining DOE in 1991, he held leadership positions within the Department of the Navy in financial and program management and acquisition, including serving as the chief of planning and program management for Naval Avionics, and ultimately as the deputy for operations of the Marine Corps Heavy Lift and Presidential Helicopter Programs.

Kane is an alumni of Edinboro University in Pennsylvania, and the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He holds numerous public service awards, including the U.S. Navy Meritorious Service Medal and the Secretary of Energy's Superior Achievement and Exceptional Service Award.
