ISO recognition for Alstom in Spain

17 June 2003 - Alstom's Power Service Sector has been awarded ISO 9001 certification for its Operation & Maintenance activities in Spain. This covers the Castejón, Besós and San Roque power stations and related management activities in Madrid. The auditing body, Lloyds Register Quality Assurance, found all O&M activities to be in full compliance with standards and not even an improvement note was issued.

This success is based on Alstom's development of a comprehensive worldwide standardised O&M system known as POMS (Power Station Management System). This has been jointly developed by several O&M power stations in various countries under the lead of Alstom's O&M activity based in Switzerland. POMS covers management, health, safety and environmental processes, operation and maintenance processes and detailed work instructions.

Alstom's O&M employees in Spain added local work instructions to this standardised management system so as to effectively customise, and further advance, the development of POMS.

ISO 9001 (quality), 14001 (environmental) and OHSAS 18001 (health and safety) certifications provide independent measures of the quality of power station management processes. It is Alstom's policy to have all sites certified according to the relevant standards. The current certification is thus a major milestone in Alstom's drive to provide unparalleled global power plant operation and maintenance services.

The Castejón (Navarra), Besós (Barcelona) and San Roque (Andalucia) power stations are all based on Alstom's GT26 gas turbine technology. They have a combined capacity of 2000 MW and the awarded O&M contracts cover a total period of 32 years.
