PITTSBURGH, PA, June 12, 2003 -- Emerson Process Management announced that its Power & Water Solutions industry center will apply Emerson's PlantWeb® digital plant architecture at Calpine's Riverside Energy Center in Beloit, Wis. and Rocky Mountain Energy Center in Weld County, Colo.
Under the terms of two individual contracts, Emerson will control turbines, boilers, and balance of plant at both natural gas fired facilities using the Ovation® Information & Control System. The contract also includes interface to HART field devices and AMS predictive maintenance software. Initial startup at both Riverside and Rocky Mountain is scheduled for May 2004.
"We're excited about the opportunity to apply our unmatched power expertise at Calpine's newest facilities," said Ron Oscher, marketing vice president for the Power & Water Solutions division of Emerson Process Management. "We hope this will be the first step towards a long term relationship and we're looking forward to talking to Calpine soon about how our control solutions can further benefit the company's bottom line."
The contracts also include maintenance agreements through which Emerson will provide support based on its SureServiceSM maintenance program. Service agreements include ongoing software enhancements, customized training programs and a dedicated local California service support facility to provide the most rapid response possible.
PlantWeb digital plant architecture is an automation solution that delivers asset management, process control and management execution through intelligent field devices, standards and scalable platforms, and integrated modular software. Ovation communicates with HART devices and acquires and analyzes the information each transmitter provides through AMS, an Emerson predictive maintenance software package. AMS provides real-time equipment information to plant personnel allowing for more efficient and cost-effective maintenance operations, which can increase availability and decrease maintenance costs.
The Ovation system uses an open architecture approach that helps to eliminate concerns about technological obsolescence and dependence on proprietary systems. Operating on a high-speed, high-capacity network, Ovation was the first system built completely to open industry standards. It uses commercially available hardware and allows easy integration of a customer's existing IT products and components, while maintaining process security.
