Caterpillar Group president Oberhelman nominated to Ameren board

PEORIA, Ill., and ST. LOUIS, April 9, 2003 -- Ameren Corp. announced that Douglas R. Oberhelman, group president of Caterpillar Inc. was nominated for election to the Ameren Corporation Board of Directors. That election will take place at the Ameren annual meeting of shareholders April 22.

He was also nominated for election to the boards of various Ameren subsidiaries, including the board of directors of AmerenCILCO-Ameren's Peoria- based utility operating company. AmerenCILCO's annual meeting is scheduled for May 20.

Oberhelman has worldwide responsibility for Caterpillar's financial, legal, purchasing, and auditing and compliance divisions. His responsibilities also include marketing, manufacturing and sales operations in Asia-Pacific.

"We are extremely pleased with Doug Oberhelman's nomination. Doug brings knowledge of our markets and a wealth of business experience to the Ameren board," said Ameren Corporation Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Charles W. Mueller.

Prior to his current role, Oberhelman served as a Caterpillar vice president with responsibility for the company's Engine Products Division, which includes worldwide marketing and administration for Caterpillar's engine and electric power generation business.

He was elected a Caterpillar vice president in 1995 and appointed the company's chief financial officer. In 1991, Oberhelman was named managing director and vice general manager for strategic planning at Shin Caterpillar Mitsubishi, Caterpillar's joint venture in Tokyo, Japan. Oberhelman also held a variety of finance and marketing positions in North and South America.

Oberhelman serves as chairman of the board of trustees for Millikin University, chairman of the board of directors for Easter Seals-UCP, and director for the boards of South Side Bank, The Nature Conservancy and the United States-China Business Council.
