Thomassen re-emerges as Calpine unit

27 March 2003 - Industrial gas turbine service company BBP (Babcock Borsig Power) Turbine Services, has been acquired by Calpine Corporation and reverted to the name Thomassen Turbine Systems (TTS), the firm announced Tuesday.

Formed originally as Thomassen International, a heavy-duty gas turbine service company, TTS will continue to operate from its facilities in Rheden, Germany as well as Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. and Perth, Western Australia.

TTS has over 100 field service staff with experience in manufacturing, commissioning and maintenance of gas turbines of the Frame-3, 5, 6 and 9 types, used in both power generation and mechanical drive. Although the manufacturing business ceased in 1998, the service organization continued to expand under the ownership of Babcock Borsig.

San Jose, California-based power company Calpine Corporation recently acquired the company from Babcock Borsig.
