18 December 2002 - David Still, chairman of the British Wind Energy Association and former head of AMEC's wind energy business, has been seconded to the Department of Trade and Industry for two years to help deliver the Government's renewable energy targets Energy Minister Brian Wilson announced Tuesday.
"David's first-hand experience of promoting wind technology and taking forward major projects will be extremely valuable. He will bring an industry perspective to the challenges we face.
"Although his background is mainly in wind-power, many of the issues affecting other renewables technologies are similar and I am looking for a wide-ranging engagement with the whole industry."
As the DTI Renewables Advisor, David Still will work with Iain Todd, Head of Renewable Energy Industry Development and Sarah Kydd, Head of Renewables UK.
John Early, AMEC plc Executive Director with responsibility for the company's wind energy business, commented, "We are delighted that David Still has been chosen to help the DTI team resolve a number of strategic issues which are key to the delivery of the Government's demanding targets for renewable energy generation, which we fully support.
"We believe David is very well placed to take up this challenge and see the move as further commitment from the Government to deliver policy through a partnership of the public and private sectors."
The Government has set a target of obtaining ten per cent of the UK's electricity from renewable energy sources by 2010.
