Private investment to enter Vietnam power sector

6 December, 2002 - Vietnam's Ministry of Industry has said that foreign and local private investment in the electricity industry will be possible from December 10.

Investments will be accepted to build power plants and power transmission lines to generate and sell electricity to the Electricity of Vietnam Corporation (EVN), as well as other customers.

Investments can be in the form of Build-Operate-Transfer, Build-Transfer-Operate, and Build-Own-Operate. The projects must be licensed by the ministry and included in its list of independent electricity projects. Projects will be approved if they are in keeping with Vietnam's strategy for development and the energy sector.
