JACKSON, Mich., July 17, 2002 -- A 20-year human resources veteran at Consumers Energy, Kim D. Morris, has been named human resources director for all of the utility's generating plants.
In that position, Morris will be responsible for all human resources matters for 1,475 employees at nine generating plant sites. Her responsibilities include staffing, employee relations enhancement, leadership coaching and development, compensation and benefits, employee safety, and related areas.
Robert A. Fenech, the utility's senior vice president for nuclear, fossil, and hydro operations, said Morris's experience and background make her ideally suited for her new position.
"Kim has a track record of performance and leadership at Consumers Energy that spans two decades. I'm pleased that she now has a larger role on our generation team. Our employees are the most important asset that we have and in her new position, Kim will help us build on that strength," Fenech said.
Previously, Morris served as the human resources director for the utility's Karn-Weadock Complex near Essexville. She joined Consumers Energy as an organization development consultant and has held a series of increasingly responsible positions, working in Saginaw, Midland, Traverse City, and Jackson. She also has served as an instructor in human resources management at Delta College and Northwood University.
Morris holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in labor and industrial relations from Michigan State University.
"I'm excited by this new challenge and the opportunities it offers. The restructuring of the state's electric marketplace has placed new demands on Consumers Energy and its employees. The rules of the game have changed. We've met this challenge as a team and succeeded by relying on the knowledge and experience of our employees. I'm looking forward to playing a larger role in that ongoing effort," Morris said.
Consumers Energy, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy, is Michigan's largest utility providing natural gas and electricity to more than six million of the state's nearly 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties.
