Barnhart Crane & Rigging moves equipment at Black Hills Energy Complex

MEMPHIS, Tenn., July 10, 2002 - Barnhart Crane & Rigging recently completed a heavy lift of power equipment for Babcock & Wilcox Co. at the Black Hills Corp. energy complex near Gillette, Wyo.

Both the 360,000-pound generator and 280,000-pound turbine arrived by rail at the only new-capacity pulverized coal-fired power plant under construction in the United States.

They were then transported via hydraulic, multi-axle platform trailer one-quarter mile to the appropriate location to be lifted. "Barnhart Crane & Rigging utilized a gantry rail stator frame to set both units inside the facility," said John Boone, project manager, Barnhart Crane & Rigging.

"The bidding process for this job was tough; Barnhart did an excellent job. Everything went smoothly, and the job was completed on-time and on-budget," said Norm Davies, site manager, Babcock & Wilcox.

Barnhart Crane & Rigging, established in 1969, is a leading national supplier of specialized heavy rigging and transportation solutions. The company, with 11 locations across the United States, also provides crane services, machinery moving, and plant relocations, as well as project cargo logistics and heavy equipment storage at its 100-acre, 700,000-square-foot warehouse facility in Memphis, Tenn.
