Split Rock Energy issues RFP on behalf of Great River Energy

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., June 14, 2002 -- Split Rock Energy, a company that provides wholesale power marketing and trading services to its members, has issued an RFP for power supply resources on behalf of Great River Energy, one of its members.

RFP responses will be provided to Great River Energy (GRE) to analyze the appropriateness of the responses in meeting the cooperative's future power supply needs. GRE issued an RFP for power supply resources in 2001. That RFP resulted in GRE acquiring 150MW of resources for varying terms.

Great River Energy is one of the fastest growing energy providers in Minnesota. Its last Integrated Resource Plan filed with the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission identified the need for about 1300 MW of resources over the forecast period. The plan specifically identified the need for about 500 MW of new resources out to 2010. The plan calls for the addition of 200-300 MW of peaking or intermediate resources in the first half of the decade and 200-300 MW of baseload resources in the second half of the decade.

GRE has recently added a significant amount of peaking resources at Pleasant Valley Station and Lakefield Junction Station. It has also been studying its options in North Dakota and Minnesota for adding baseload resources. In addition, it has received several unsolicited wind project proposals. Split Rock's intention in issuing this RFP is to provide GRE with a complete information base for selecting what additional resources GRE should add to their portfolio. The entire spectrum of resources will be considered for either ownership or purchase.

For a copy of the complete Request for Proposal, contact Split Rock Energy, 301 4th Avenue South, Suite 860 N, Minneapolis, MN 55415 (612) 332-1282 or email SRE_RFP@splitrockenergy.com with the words "Power Resource RFP" in the subject line. Proposals are due no later than 4 p.m. CPT on July 2, 2002.
