PPL Susquehanna names vice president of nuclear operations

ALLENTOWN, Pa., June 5, 2002 -- Richard Anderson, who has served as generation manager of the Susquehanna nuclear plant since 2000, has been named vice president-Nuclear Operations for PPL Susquehanna LLC, the company that operates the Luzerne County, Pa., facility.

"In his two years in Susquehanna operations, Rich has shown the type of knowledge and leadership that make him a natural to fill this role," said Bryce Shriver, who was recently named PPL Corporation's senior vice president and chief nuclear officer following the retirement of Robert Byram.

As vice president-Nuclear Operations, Anderson will be responsible for day-to-day operations and long-term station performance, providing a single focal point for all aspects of station operations, Shriver said. He will report to Shriver, who held a similar position at the plant until he was named to his new post May 17.

Anderson came to Susquehanna from the Duane Arnold nuclear plant in Iowa, where he served as plant manager. He is a licensed senior reactor operator, a graduate of the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations' Senior Nuclear Plant Maintenance Course and has more than 22 years of nuclear plant experience. Anderson holds a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Iowa.

Shriver also announced that Al Wrape and Bob Saccone, two veterans of the Susquehanna operation, have been named to general manager positions. Wrape will head the Nuclear Assurance function, and Saccone will head the Nuclear Engineering group.

Anderson, Wrape and Saccone all will report to Shriver. The appointments were effective June 3.

The two-unit plant, located about seven miles north of Berwick, is owned jointly by PPL Susquehanna LLC and Allegheny Electric Cooperative Inc. and is operated by PPL Susquehanna.

PPL Susquehanna is one of PPL Corporation's generating facilities. Headquartered in Allentown, Pa., PPL Corporation controls or owns more than 10,000 megawatts of generating capacity in the United States, markets energy in select U.S. states and Canada, and delivers electricity to nearly 6 million customers in Pennsylvania, the United Kingdom and Latin America.
