Perry Nuclear Power Plant taken off line for repairs

AKRON, Ohio, June 4, 2002 -- FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Co. (FENOC) recently announced that the Perry Nuclear Power Plant, located in Perry, Ohio, has been placed in cold shutdown mode in order to replace the main generator exciter rotor with one available at the plant.

This equipment is not related to the nuclear portion of the plant. Perry is expected to return to service within two weeks.

The Perry Plant, along with the Davis-Besse and Beaver Valley nuclear plants, is owned by FirstEnergy Corp., Akron, Ohio, and operated by its FENOC subsidiary. FirstEnergy Corp. is a registered public utility holding company.
