Babcock & Wilcox names Reimels president, B&W Canada

BARBERTON, Ohio, May 8, 2002 -- The Babcock & Wilcox Co. (B&W) announced that Richard E. Reimels has been named president, B&W Canada, replacing Paul Koenderman who announced his retirement after more than 30 years of service with the company.

Most recently, Reimels was vice president and general manager, Babcock & Wilcox International Service, with responsibility for Babcock & Wilcox Volund in Denmark as well as B&W's international joint ventures. Previous assignments include director of Project Services for B&W's Fossil Power Division and general manager, Allen-Sherman-Hoff, which is a division of B&W's Diamond Power International, Inc. subsidiary. Reimels holds a bachelor's degree from State University of New York Maritime College, and a master's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Houston. He is a registered professional engineer in the State of New York. He plans to relocate to the Cambridge, Ontario, Canada, area in the near future.

Koenderman joined Babcock & Wilcox in 1969 as a student engineer. He held a number of positions of increasing importance with B&W since that time including vice president, Marketing & Sales, vice president and general manager, Fossil Power Division, senior vice president and group executive, Global Marketing & Sales, and senior vice president, Power Generation Group.

"We truly appreciate the many contributions Paul has made over his long career, not just to our company but also to the power generation industry as a whole," said David Keller, B&W president and chief operating officer. "I know all B&W employees join me in wishing him the very best as he embarks upon his retirement."

While Reimels' appointment is effective immediately, Koenderman will remain with the company for a period of time to ensure a smooth transition of his previous responsibilities.

The Babcock & Wilcox Company is a subsidiary of McDermott International, Inc., a worldwide energy services company. McDermott subsidiaries manufacture steam-generating equipment, environmental equipment, and products for the U.S. government. They also provide engineering and construction services for the offshore oil and natural gas industries.

Though there are many power generation companies that contain the name Babcock, the U.S.-based Babcock & Wilcox is the original, founded by George Babcock and Stephen Wilcox in 1867.
