NORWOOD, Mass., May 14, 2002 -- Elcom International Inc., an international provider of remotely-hosted eProcurement marketplace solutions, today announced that Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), the nation's largest public power organization, has selected Elcom to provide an asset management system supplied by HCI Systems, Inc., Elcom's asset management Alliance Partner. Under the license, Elcom will host and provide designated TVA facilities personnel with access to HCI's iPlan™ system.
iPlan™ is a web-based strategic planning tool used to quantify and prioritize the capital required to preserve and maintain investments in facilities and fixed assets. It enables organizations to effectively evaluate the scope and complexity of various deferred maintenance, capital renewal, plant adaptation and routine maintenance projects.
TVA has corporate offices in Knoxville and Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and fifteen (15) customer service centers across the valley, encompassing approximately 1,800 buildings and more 29 million square feet of space.
Several months ago TVA's Facilities Management group initiated a comprehensive TVA wide review of all its facility, the results of which identified a need for a collaborative asset lifecycle management tool. The selection of iPlan™ will enable the TVA's Facilities Management Group to collaborate on the development of a "Valley" wide Strategic Facilities Plan that once implemented has the potential to save millions of dollars.
TVA's use of iPlan™ will significantly enhance its ability to quantify and prioritize facility renewal requirements by enabling the TVA Facilities Management Group to collaborate on projects to share valuable best practices.
Robert J. Crowell, Elcom International's Chairman and CEO, stated, "The selection of HCI's iPlan™ by TVA is another important milestone for the company as it is our first asset-management license and broadens our portfolio of hosted applications to support the entire procurement process. By offering a collaborative asset management lifecycle solution, hosted on our platform with eProcurement, we are providing our customers with the ability to drive out the many inefficiencies associated with acquiring, maintaining and disposing of assets. Our partnership with HCI Systems, Inc. enables Elcom to address the needs of our customers to more effectively manage the assets that they procure through PECOS Internet Procurement Manager, our hosted eProcurement solution."
Solutions that support "Collaborative Asset Lifecycle Management" have emerged as companies seek to extend the useful life of purchased assets by improving asset tracking, replacement planning and implementing more effective preventative maintenance.
eProcurement solutions have enabled companies to improve requisitioning, sourcing and financial settlement processes while asset management applications have improved tracking and planning processes. Combining the two application families address the need for a more comprehensive, total approach to asset lifecycle management.
"We're very excited about our alliance partnership with Elcom and the addition of TVA as a beneficiary of iPlan™," stated Jim Kavanagh, President and CEO of HCI Systems. "Our vision has always been to provide a one-stop solution for the management of an asset from acquisition to disposal. By partnering with Elcom, companies now have access to an affordable end-to-end solution that supports all important aspects of the collaborative asset lifecycle management process such as asset classification, capital planning, operations and more effective preventative maintenance."
