HOUSTON, Texas, May 6, 2002 -- A unit of Williams announced recently that it has placed its Sundance Expansion Project into service, increasing capacity on its Transco pipeline system by over 236,000 dekatherms per day.
This additional firm transportation capacity serves markets in Georgia and the Carolinas.
"Williams' Sundance Expansion Project is designed to meet the growing needs of traditional utility, residential and industrial customers as well as the region's rapidly increasing number of gas-fired power generation facilities," said Gary Lauderdale, senior vice president of customer service for Williams' gas pipeline business. "The on-time completion of this project further demonstrates Williams' commitment to bring additional supplies of natural gas to the southeastern United States."
Sundance adds four pipeline loops, totaling 38 miles, along the company's existing mainline system. The project also adds 41,225 horsepower of compression at two existing compressor stations in Georgia: Station 115 in Coweta County and Station 125 in Walton County. Williams filed the project with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on April 4, 2000, and received the final order on March 29, 2001. Construction began in the summer of 2001.
With a system that spans the continental United States, Williams' gas pipeline unit is among the nation's largest volume transporters of natural gas. The gas pipeline business is based in Houston and has offices in Salt Lake City and Owensboro, Ky.
