INTERNATIONAL
The global carbon market in 2008 more than doubled in value from 2007 to €92bn ($125bn), according to the recent Carbon Market Monitor report, published by market analysts Point Carbon.

EUROPE
The European Commission has earmarked €1.25bn ($1.63bn) for carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects, €500m for offshore wind projects and €1.75bn for gas and electricity interconnection projects from leftover funds.

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), the government owned power transmission company, has inked a loan agreement for $400m with the World Bank.

Wholesale power supplier AMP-Ohio is to partner with Bechtel Power Corporation in the construction of a major coal fired generating plant and associated facilities adjacent to the Ohio River in southeast Ohio.
