PG&E to use "dry cooling" technology

2 August 2007 -- Pacific Gas and Electric Co. received permission from the California Energy Commission to employ "dry cooling" technology at its Gateway Generating Station (Gateway) currently under construction near Antioch.

The combined cycle technology will decrease fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions by about 35 percent.

PG&E plans to complete construction of the facility and have the output available to serve electric customers in 2009. The 530-MW, natural gas-fueled Gateway project is the first new power plant to be constructed by PG&E in nearly 20 years.
